Do you want to help preserve a piece of Red Rocks history? Roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty at the historic Red Rocks Civilian Conservation Corps camp! You'll assist historic preservation specialists in restoring wooden windows from the 1930's. The finished windows will be re-installed in Barracks 3, which is currently scheduled for rehabilitation and adaptive re-use. You'll also set glass panes, apply glazing compound for weather sealing, oil and paint the windows, and prepare the windows for re-installation. You'll also have the opportunity to work with traditional finishes and learn about the benefits of pure linseed oil and linseed oil paint for both historic and non-historic projects. Skill Requirement: Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome. If you have carpentry skills and would like to help with more advanced woodworking and window repair, we'd love to talk with you. Please contact Bennett Dear at [email protected] for additional volunteer opportunities. We will be working with all-natural, zero-VOC linseed oil-based products that can stain clothing, so please dress accordingly. Work will be performed standing up in a workshop with ventilation and fans but no air conditioner. You should plan to bring a water bottle and lunch. A refrigerator and microwave are available for use. Window Restoration future dates: July 20 / August 3, 17, 31 / September 14, 28 / October 12, 26
