Are you passionate about sports and shaping young lives? Denver Parks & Recreation is looking for enthusiastic Volunteer Youth Coaches to help guide our recreational sports leagues. Coaches are needed for baseball, basketball, flag football, softball, volleyball, soccer, and t-ball, working with kids aged 5 to 17.
As a coach, you’ll help youth participants learn fundamental sports skills, develop teamwork, and build confidence on and off the field.
- Requirements:

Coach and mentor youth athletes in basic skills and sport-specific techniques.

Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that emphasizes good sportsmanship and teamwork.

Lead 1–2 team practices per week.

Attend all scheduled games and events during the season.

Support players’ development with encouragement, patience, and positivity.

Attend a required coach orientation/training session provided by Denver Parks & Recreation.

Communicate effectively with players, parents, and Parks & Recreation staff.

Follow all department policies regarding conduct, communication, and youth safety.

- Expectations:
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before and after practices/games for setup and teardown.

Bring and maintain necessary coaching equipment (e.g., whistle, practice plans)

Keep attendance and report absences to the Recreation Center Coordinator.

Communicate absences at least two (2) hours in advance and ensure coverage.

Hold a parent meeting at the first practice to review team expectations, rules, and identify a “Team Parent” or assistant coach.

Develop age-appropriate practice plans and activities. Uphold and enforce rules, team rosters, and DPR's code of conduct and coaches code of ethics.

Maintain open communication with DPR staff, parents, and players.

Wear appropriate athletic clothing; coaches receive a Youth Sports t-shirt after training.

Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all players, including those requiring accommodations.
- Qualifications:
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn the fundamentals of the sport(s) you are coaching.

Ability to be a supportive, dependable, and positive role model for youth participants.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Ability to uphold safety procedures and maintain participant confidentiality.

Demonstrated good character and commitment to your volunteer role throughout the season.

Must be 18 years or older.

Willingness to work with diverse populations, including youth with disabilities or those requiring accommodations (training provided).

Complete the DPR volunteer application and pass an annual criminal background check prior to participation.
